"Faithfulness - Gods Undersestimated Gift"
Paul is writing from prison (presumably Rome) to all the church at Philipi. Paul had founded this church at Philippi about ten years before and the Philippians had been a constant support and encouragement since then. Hearing that he was in prison they had sent Epaphroditus to minister to his needs as well as supplying a gift. Unfortunately Epaphroditus became seriously ill. Paul decided to send him back to Philippi and wrote the letter to send back with him. In many respects, this is a 'missionary thank-you' letter. Paul uses the regular letter writing conventions of hte day to begin his letter but makes a unique Christian 'reworking' of it to highlight themes he wishes to develop during the letter.
Paul reports to the Philippians his continual thanks to God for their faithfulness to him and assures them this confirms God's faithfulness to them. With deep affection, he tells how he faithfully prays that they may grow in love and wise living that will honour God while preparing for Christ's return.
God values faithfulness in us. we will never know the thanks and gratitude God receives because of our faithfulness in praying, supporting and encouraging others - missionaries, friends family....
God blesses faithfulness to Him... as we are diligent to grow in our love informed by the gospel and focused on Christ's Return.
